Leamington resident wins composting competition

A resident of Leamington has been announced as recycle for Warwickshire‘s lucky winner of the Recycle Now Home Composting ‘Golden Bin’ competition this week.

Joy Mills who lives in north Leamington Spa moved house six months ago and ordered a compost bin as part of Compost Awareness Week celebrations back in May. She is now the lucky winner of £100 of garden centre vouchers, donated by DHL, the logistics company that deliver compost bins for the Recycle Now Compost at Home Campaign.

Mrs Mills said: “I needed a new compost bin when I moved into the new house as it’s such a useful thing to have. I’m really pleased to have won the gardening vouchers as it’ll give me the opportunity to fill the spaces in the boarders with some new plants!”

The new compost bin was delivered to Mrs Mills a few weeks ago and composting expert Laura Vesty, Waste Minimisation Manager with the county council will visit Mrs Mills on Friday to present Mrs Mills with her vouchers and golden bow for her bin.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Chair of Warwickshire Waste Partnership and Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Mrs Mills is now able to recycle around one third of her household waste by home composting, helping to achieve the council’s goal of diverting waste away from landfill.  What’s more by composting at home, Mrs Mills gets a great fertiliser for the garden, absolutely free.”

Those who missed out on this year’s Compost Awareness Week need not fear – cut-price compost bins are available to buy throughout the year. To find out what bins are available, residents can log on to the website http://www.recylenow.com/compost or phone 0845 077 0757.
