Youngsters tune in to the sound of summer

Youngsters from the Warwick district have been learning about music making, street dance and photography as part of a special multi-media project.

In association with Positive about Young People, The Gap and Warwick Youth Centre have encouraged young people to get involved in creative activities with the ‘Making Your Mark’ music and media project.

Music and video production, digital photography, street dance, vocal coaching and urban art are some of the workshops that have been on offer to 13-19 year-olds over the summer.

Ash Subhan, one of the peer mentors for the project, has spent the last three weeks teaching everything from drumming to camera handling. He said:  “The workshops are aimed at showing the different creative things you can do and we’ve been lucky enough to access really good equipment.”

Young people have also been working with a professional artist using graffiti techniques to produce a new mural for Warwick Youth Centre at Coten End.

Vince Farrugia a youth worker at Warwick Youth Centre said: “The project is all about encouraging young people to make a positive mark whether it’s through art or music.”

The holiday activities are supported by Positive about Young People, a partnership between Warwickshire County Council and the police which aims to engage young people in positive activities and feel part of their communities.

New members are always welcome at Warwick Youth Centre, for further information please call 01926 498 088.
