Warwick Library makes Peace offering

Warwick Library is welcoming an award-winning writer dubbed as the future of British crime fiction by Inspector Rebus creator Ian Rankin, in the latest of its ‘Meet the Author’ events.

David Peace will be at Warwick Library at 7.15pm on 10 September to discuss his latest work, Tokyo Year Zero, a bleak murder story based on the killings of Geisha girls in post-war Tokyo.

This is the latest in a string of Meet the Author events run buy Warwickshire Libraries in partnership with Warwick Books which has already seen the likes of Adele Parks, Peter James and Stuart McBride, with Celia Rees also scheduled to appear later in the year.

Peace has lived in Tokyo for 13 years having moved there to work as an English teacher.  Tokyo Year Zero is set to be the first work in a projected trilogy detailing crime in the city in devastating aftermath of the war.

Peace has been one of the country’s most prolific writers in recent years having published seven novels since 1999.

His writing career began with a quartet of books based on the Yorkshire Ripper murders.  Growing up in Yorkshire in the 70s and 80s, these events shaped both his early life and his writing.

Having risen to national prominence following the success of Damned United, a fictitious story of the late football manager Brian Clough’s ill-fated stay at Leeds United, David Peace is touted by many as one of the leading lights in British literature.

Kate Mackie of Warwickshire Libraries said:  “David Peace is the latest exciting writer to appear at the library as the programme of Meet the Author events goes from strength to strength.  We are very grateful to our partners at Warwick Books whose contacts in the industry have enabled us to bring so many top class writers to Warwick.”

Tickets are priced at £3.50 (Concessions £2.00) available in advance from Warwick Library and Warwick Books. Copies of the books will be on sale on the night.  For more information please contact Warwick Library on 01926 412189.
