Bringing ‘streets for people’ into focus

Photographers of all abilities are being called on to get snapping and come up with images demonstrating ‘streets for people’ in Warwickshire.

As part of European Mobility Week, which runs from Sunday, September 16, the Sustainable Travel Team at Warwickshire County Council are launching a photo competition with the theme “Streets for People”.

These car free images will then be judged, and first prize is an 8 megapixel digital camera, with runners up in line for a family ticket for Warwick Castle and a family return ticket to London via Chiltern Railways.

Entrants could also find their pictures being used in Warwickshire County Council material – from posters and leaflets, to guide books and web-sites. All will be aimed at promoting sustainable travel.

Cllr Martin Heatley, the county council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Anything goes – within the confines of the law and good taste! A street scene with people chatting, perhaps a market or a street entertainer. Of course, an ironic view of traffic choked roads may also stand a chance, so get snapping.”

Send entries as a high resolution jpeg to sustainabletravel@warwickshire.gov.uk . CD or floppy discs can be posted to Streets for People photo competition, PO Box 43, Shire Hall, Warwick, CV34 4SX. Full terms and conditions can be seen at http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/travelwise . Closing date for entries is 31st October 2007.
