Chinese tourists pay county council a visit

The world of local government in Warwickshire has been uncovered for a delegation of Chinese visitors.

A team of senior government officials from the Chinese city of Wuhan asked to visit Warwickshire County Council to try and find out more about how the local authority aids tourism in the county.

The delegation was welcomed by John Scouller, the county council’s Head of Skills, Tourism and Economy, and they then enjoyed a tour, including the county council’s main ante-chamber and council chamber.

Following the tour of Shire Hall the delegates were shown around Warwick and enjoyed a visit to Warwick Castle.

Mr Sang Jianping, Vice President of Wuhan Jianghan University, said: “This is my second visit to Warwick during my stay in the UK, and I urge other visitors to come to the town and the castle - they both have a lot to offer.”

Mr Xiong Shizhong, Director of Wuhan Arbitration Committee, said: “During my visit to the UK Warwick is the only place I’ve come back to twice, and I hope to come back again. Warwick has a fascinating history and cultural heritage.”

The Chinese officials were based at the School of Public Policy at Birmingham University for six weeks to try and learn more about the UK’s public administration.

Mr Scouller said: “Many people do not realise the role Warwickshire County Council plays in improving and developing tourism in Warwickshire. I’m delighted that during their time in the West Midlands they chose to visit us.”
