Cycle Races are coming to Warwick

You don’t need to live in London to benefit from the Tour de France when you have the best of Britain’s riders coming to Warwick for the TravelWise Cycle Races on Sunday, September 16.

Spectators are guaranteed a great spectacle as the riders race around a tight town centre circuit.

As well as the full day of cycle racing action around the closed town centre streets of Warwick, the event will also provide a packed agenda of family activities and entertainment.

The day gets underway at 11am on Sunday, September 16, and continues through until 6pm.

And to get things going with a fun element, the first race of the day at 11.30am will be the unicycle race around the town centre course – get those cameras at the ready for this action which is now drawing unicyclists from around the UK and overseas.

This is then followed on the circuit by a busy agenda of racing, from junior races, to trike action and then the Elite women’s and men’s racing. Hopes and dreams are decided here as the Warwick race is the final in the Elite Series.

Off the track things are equally busy with plenty of sideshows and demonstrations, including flaming hula hoops, face painting, the chance to win a fantastic mountain bike on the day, Bike check ups from Dr Bike and a mini cycle circuit for the kids to test their skills.

Warwickshire County Council is working with TravelWise, Warwick District Council, Warwickshire Police and British Cycling to ensure that this year’s races on Sunday, September 16, are bigger and better than ever.

The National TravelWise Association, of which Warwickshire County Council is a member, is a network of sectors, including local authorities, health sector, academic sector and passenger transport executives working together to promote healthy and sustainable transport.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet member for the Environment, said: “Last year’s event was a huge success, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this year progresses things further.

“Cycling is a great leisure pursuit, way to commute, and way to keep healthy. This event is a wonderful showcase of some of the best cycling talent out there.”
