Help at hand for admissions process
Help is at hand for parents whose children will be starting secondary school in 2008.
Warwickshire County Council has appointed two School Transfer Coordinators to provide independent, impartial advice to parents and carers on all aspects of the school admissions process, particularly families with children transferring from primary to secondary school.
Jo Bohler and Vicki Pool came into post earlier this year to help parents who need support making applications for secondary school places for their year 6 children. The coordinators are keen to introduce the service to as many people as possible and will be holding open events, one-to-one sessions and admissions surgeries at primary schools around the county. Leaflets about the service are available from schools and libraries and parents can call the team direct on 0845 090 8044.
Vicki Pool, School Transfer Coordinator for Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are looking forward to working with parents and partners from the very beginning of the process to support those who need help with their applications for secondary school.”
The coordinators are dedicating much of their time identifying those families who will gain most from using the service and may not be engaged with the secondary school application process.
Jo Bohler, School Transfer Coordinator for Warwickshire County Council, added: “One of the most valuable achievements of the service so far has been the success we have had in working with tens of parents who had not engaged with the secondary school application process last term or who had applied, but not accepted a place to start secondary school in September 2007.”
If you live in Warwickshire and your child attends a Warwickshire School you must have completed and returned your application form to your child’s headteacher by 12 October 2007. If you live in Warwickshire and your child does not attend a Warwickshire School you must have completed and returned your application form to the Admissions Service at Warwickshire County Council by 19 October 2007.
