Works on Stratford canal bridge

Work is getting underway soon on the Great William Street Canal Bridge (Maidenhead Bridge) in Stratford-upon-Avon to replace the corroded edge beams, refurbish and strengthen the deck.

The works are scheduled to start on September 24, and should take about eight weeks to complete.

During this period the towpath will be closed, and pedestrians will have to cross the road. However, two way traffic flow will be possible throughout the works, with minimal disruption to motorists.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “These works are part of our essential maintenance programme to improve the condition of our structures and prolong their life.”
