Kenilworth gets its direct bus service to Stratford back

A direct bus service between Kenilworth and Stratford is being restored after a four-year gap.

In a series of changes to its bus service network in Stratford and South Warwickshire Stagecoach is to re-establish its Stratford to Coventry service.

The 16 service will, after serving Kenilworth, be routed via Leek Wootton, Warwick Hospital and Warwick. Both Kenilworth and Leek Wootton will therefore benefit from an increase in the journeys serving Warwick Hospital.

Warwickshire County Council has responded to the Stagecoach changes by altering several bus services that it financially supports in the Kenilworth area.

These include:-
The 539 will no longer serve Warwick. It will start at Kenilworth Clock and is routed through the south east of the town before serving Stoneleigh, Baginton and Coventry.
The 540 will continue to provide journeys between Kenilworth and Cannon Park shops. It will also provide journeys into Kenilworth town centre for passengers living in the Clinton Lane and Castle area but at times more suitable for shopping.
The routing of the revised Stagecoach 16 service and the Johnsons 539 service allows for the 541 and 543 services to be discontinued.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment said: “Overall the changes being introduced by Stagecoach and the alterations to financially supported services being made by the county council should produce an improved public transport network in the area.

“We are particularly delighted that Stagecoach are restoring the direct link from Stratford to Coventry which has huge benefits for Kenilworth and Leek Wootton residents.”

Details of all the changes to bus services in the Stratford and south Warwickshire area due on October 1 are displayed on the county council website http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/publictransport listed under ‘Forthcoming Bus Service Changes’.
