Demolition work underway at Hunters Lane HWRC
Following its closure at the start of September, the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Rugby is now being demolished. The demolition activity is the start of a programme of work, which will allow total refurbishment of the site to take place.
The new refurbished centre has been designed to ensure it can meet the current and future recycling needs of local residents and will open in time for Easter 2008. Once open, the new site will offer a considerably improved facility for local residents.
As planned, the temporary arrangements have been monitored by both County and Borough Council officers. Subsequently, the decision has been taken to ensure cardboard recycling facilities are available locally for residents.
Three new ‘banks’ for cardboard recycling facilities will be in place from the first week in October located at Ashlawn Road, Jubilee Street, Craven Road – Stoneyard car park.
While the closure of the site and the adjustment to new waste disposal arrangements is generally going well, there has been some confusion over where residents can take their waste while Hunters Lane is closed.
The local ‘bring banks’ such as those located in supermarket car parks are for recyclable material such as glass, paper, plastic bottles and drinks cans ONLY.
Warwickshire County Council is asking the public to take waste that cannot be recycled to one of the alternative manned HWRCs such as the newly refurbished Stockton site. Project Manager, Jo Ingle, said: “I would like to thank residents for their patience while these works take place and am sorry for the inconvenience. I would urge residents to please bear with us and ensure that you dispose of your waste responsibly. The unauthorised dumping of waste is illegal and those who choose to fly-tip will be prosecuted. “
Any flytipping can be reported to Rugby Borough Council by calling 01788 533533 or by visiting http://www.rugby.gov.uk
