Competition winners celebrate their success!
The winners of a summer fire safety competition have been celebrating their success by being presented with prizes from crews at Rugby Fire Station.
The competition, which was run by Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service in partnership with Blooms Garden Centre, Homebase and Argos, took place at Blooms Garden Centre on Saturday 18 August. Entries to the competition had to fill in a questionnaire on barbeque fire safety and all entries were then put in to a hat. Winners were then drawn out at random.
Local resident (from Newtown, Rugby), Mary Williams said:
“To win a prize we had to fill in a questionnaire on barbeque fire safety. The crews were very helpful with providing me with the right information which helped me to fill in the forms and I also managed to sign up for a free home fire safety check at the same time. I am delighted to have won. It was very exciting. I now have a new camping set, which I am looking forward to using.”
Firefighter Paul Haywood said:
“We received over 200 entries to the competition and the five winners were picked out of a hat by the crews. We are really pleased that so many residents took part in the competition and hope that we achieved our main aim, which was to promote the dangers of using barbeques, the safe storage of LPG cylinders and patio heaters.
“We invited all of the winners along to the station to collect their prizes and they all seemed really pleased.”
