Youngsters rise to the challenge with community mural

Youngsters from Warwick have unveiled a mural for the local community.

The 20 ft artwork was created by a group of 13-16 year olds from the Packmores Estate and will be a permanent fixture on the Millers Road.

The young people were assisted by two professional artists at the Community Arts Workshop to produce the vibrant mural and each gained the Warwickshire Youth Challenge Award in recognition of their efforts.

The project, which has been set up and developed by the Youth and Community Service, received funding from Warwickshire County Council’s Community Fund and the Youth Opportunity Fund. The idea behind the scheme is to give young people the chance to work creatively while making a contribution to their local community.

Teresa Chalcroft, Youth Worker for Warwickshire County Council, said: “The young people involved in the mural have not only developed their talents but they have each gained a true sense of pride in their neighbourhood.”
