Firefighters warn students not to take the risk!
Firefighters in Stratford are launching their toughest campaign yet, which aims to inform students that the chances of them having a fire are dramatically increased when living in student accommodation.
Warwickshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is running the campaign, which is being launched at Stratford College this week. The campaign will target students across south Warwickshire over a three-month period, during which time firefighters will be visiting the halls of residence at Stratford College, Henley in Arden College and Moreton Morrell College.
Firefighter Paul Simmons said:
“The main aim of the campaign is to ensure that students know the basic of student fire safety and that all accommodation has a working smoke alarm. We have attended fires in the past where students have been cooking food in their rooms on portable stoves. Students need to be aware that by doing this they are not only putting themselves in danger, but also other students living in the building."
Whilst at the colleges, firefighters will be talking to students about the safe use of candles and cooking midnight feasts when they have been drinking.
