School achieves top mark for ICT

A school in Kenilworth is the first primary in the county to achieve a prestigious national ICT award.

With the support of Warwickshire County Council, Priors Field Primary in Clinton Lane has achieved the ICT Mark Status.
The ICT Mark is externally assessed and demonstrates that a school has reached a nationally recognised standard in using ICT.  Schools accredited with the ICT Mark demonstrate that they are committed to using technology to improve their overall effectiveness in teaching and learning to help raise standards.

As a centre of excellence for ICT, children at Priors Field will enjoy the benefits of planned and effective use of ICT across all curriculum subjects and in their preparation for the twenty first century digital world. The school will also be looking at ways of sharing its expertise with other educational establishments in the area so that even more students can benefit from the scheme.

Priors Field is one of a number of schools to be helped by a County Council initiative to achieve ICT Mark status. The project has been organised by the Warwickshire’s ICT Development Service and funded by Becta (British Educational and Technology Agency). Becta is a government-funded body responsible for promoting the use of ICT in Britain’s schools and colleges.

To celebrate this major success John Parmiter, Head of the ICT Development Service at Warwickshire County Council, presented the school with their award on Monday 1 October.

John Parmiter said: “I would like to congratulate Priors Field on achieving the ICT Mark. The County Council is committed to improving outcomes for our young people and this scheme demonstrates how technology can raise standards and enhance opportunities for pupils. “

Headteacher Andy Mitchell said: “At Priors Field, we are very committed to ensure that we use ICT to inspire and facilitate the children’s learning and we are delighted that the hard work of teachers and pupils, together with the continuing support of parents and governors, has enabled us to reach this standard”

ICT plays an important role to help achieve the Government’s national agenda that every child should stay safe and be healthy, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution in the classroom and achieve economic wellbeing by being prepared for employment.
