Buried under Bidford – public invited to go roman’ the field
Warwickshire Museum Field Services are searching for the Romans in the Bidford area and are appealing for the public’s help at an exciting search at Wixford Lodge Farm.
Bidford is famous for its Anglo Saxon past, but this field walk seeks to investigate the rest of its history. It is known that the Romans built a road through Bidford; what other impact did they have?
A day of hands on activities is planned to show, teach and involve local people in fieldwalking while encouraging people to ask experts how to discover more about archaeology, their local history and heritage.
Christina Evans, archaeological project manager said: “Bidford is a fascinating area with a rich heritage. Archaeological exercises such as this give us a clearer idea of what would have been happening in the area during other times and are tremendous fun for anybody with an interest in local history.”
The event is to be held on Saturday 13th October and Saturday 20th October from 11am to 3pm at Wixford Lodge Farm, just off George’s Elm Lane, Bidford-on-Avon.
Visitors are asked to bring a packed lunch and wear suitable footwear.
