‘Not in my Neighbourhood’: Rugby crime-fighters join forces

There is a huge range of people working to keep you safe in Rugby. That is the message that is being sent out during national ‘Not in my Neighbourhood’ week (Monday 15th October – Sunday 21st October).

To prove the point, some of the numerous people involved in keeping Rugby’s streets and neighbourhoods safe joined together at Caldecott Park on Monday (15th October).

They included Warwickshire Police, the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams, Warwickshire Fire & Rescue Service, Rugby Borough Neighbourhood Watch, Community Safety Wardens, Rugby BID Rangers, the Youth Offending Team, Positive About Young People, drug support services, Road Safety, the YMCA and Rugby CVS.

‘Not in my neighbourhood’ week is a national campaign, launched by the Home Office, that aims to raise awareness of the huge range of work that is done, day in day out, to keep crime down and make communities safe.

Paul Collett, one of a number of Community Safety Project Officer’s recently recruited by Warwickshire County Council, who has special responsibility for working with all those involved in community safety in the Rugby area, said:

“We want people living in Rugby to feel safe and reassured that so many people are working to improve their neighbourhoods, and empowered to contact the people who can help them.

“We also want to bring residents and representatives from Rugby’s communities closer together with the people who are working on the frontline, in the drive to keep all of us safe.

"Local people need to join forces with us and say no to local crime, robbery and burglary, anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, and alcohol and drug misuse.”

With so many people working to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in Rugby, it is sometimes difficult to know who to contact and when. This simple guide should help…
