Camp Hill youngsters offered chance of a lifetime

Youngsters living on Nuneaton’s Camp Hill estate are being offered the chance of a lifetime to try their hand at rally driving if they sign up to a scheme putting their behaviour in the community to the test.

Young people aged between 12 and 19 are being invited to sign up to a scheme this Wednesday and Thursday at the Camp Hill Youth and Community Building.

When they attend they will be given an information pack and also sign up to a points scheme, where they will be rewarded with points for acts that benefit the community.

Then in the spring of next year the top 20 youngsters with the most points will be able to take a fully-kitted out rally car for a spin on a rally circuit.

All Camp Hill residents, and anyone else interested, are invited to attend the events this week, which run from 4pm until 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. As well as the opportunity to sign up there will be a display of static rally cars, plus specially created pit-stops and footage of young people on the track. There will also be free hot food and the chance to win prizes.

As well as the chance to win the rally drive, youngsters taking part in the challenge will also be able to pick up spot prizes including trips to the cinema, bowling and other vouchers.

Pride in Camp Hill Project Manager Julie Smith said: “This event offers young people an invaluable opportunity to give something back to the community.

“The scheme has been successful elsewhere in the region, but is a first for Camp Hill, and is a great opportunity for local young people.

”I’d like to say a big thank you to all the partners involved, with special thanks to Lovell in giving their support to the event.”

The event has been organised by Pride in Camp Hill, Motorsport in the Midlands and Creative Media Communications, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, the county council Youth Service, and North Warwickshire and Hinckley College.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “This scheme seems a fun and interesting way to promote community spirit in Camp Hill.”
