Let your fingers do the walking – to the recycling bin
The annual Yellow Pages delivery is underway to houses across Warwickshire and the waste stream could be left creaking under the strain.
All 221,000 of Warwickshire’s households are to receive new Yellow Pages over the next few weeks meaning the old ones will be redundant.
Warwickshire County Council and the county’s borough and district councils are encouraging all residents to recycle their old Yellow Pages rather than put it in their rubbish bin.
Each of the old Yellow Pages weighs 1.464 kg, which means that in Warwickshire there will be an extra 323.5 tonnes of paper entering the waste stream.
If people put these in their bins the material will go straight to landfill, but if people recycle them, the material will be made into a range of useful materials such as cardboard, packaging, insulation material and newsprint.
Yellow Pages can be taken to any paper recycling bank across the county (visit http://www.recyclemore.co.uk to find your nearest site). Some areas are also collecting Yellow Pages from residents kerbside recycling boxes. Areas where you can put your yellow pages in your recycling box include, North Warwickshire, Rugby, Stratford and Warwick (up until 7th December).
Cllr Martin Heatley, Chair of Warwickshire Waste Partnership and Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “It’s such a massive amount of paper, it would be fantastic if every single resident in Warwickshire could help the environment by recycling their yellow pages this year.”
