Democracy continues in Stratford District

Next week Stratford-on-Avon District Council, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council, is set to continue the theme of localising democracy following on from Local Democracy Week back in October.

The second Political Speed Dating Event of the year in Stratford District is to be held on Tuesday 4 December starting at 4.30pm at Studley Village Hall.

Local Councillors vie to make the best impression with local young people, who will be grilling them on current affairs and issues of concern to them.

So far this year, as part of the Local Democracy campaign, events have included:

• A trip to Parliament on 22 October to meet local MP John Maples
• Question Time in Alcester on 2 November with MP John Maples
• Speed dating event 16 October at Stratford-on-Avon District Council offices

These activities have helped recruit enthusiastic young people to join the District Council’s group SAY SO (Serious About Youth Speaking Out).

The two Councils intend to hold future Speed Dating events all over the District to continue the Local Democracy campaign.

Date & time: Tuesday 4 December from 4.30pm
Location: Studley Village Hall
High Street
Studley
Event: Stratford-on-Avon District and Warwickshire County Councillors political speed dating with young people from local schools

The Local Democracy Campaign aims to encourage young people to become involved in their community and the wider democratic process.
