Firefighters fund and Book of Condolences

An online Warwickshire Firefighters Families Fund has this morning topped £11,000.

So far 450 people have made donations to the fund, set up to support the families of the four firefighters who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty in Atherstone on Stour.

Warwickshire County Council has created the fund, and the local authority is also offering an online Book of Condolences.

The online book has so far seen 3,734 people add their thoughts, prayers and comments.

About two entries every minute are currently being added to the online book, with many coming from local people, but equally many are coming from elsewhere in this country and throughout the world.

Entries have come in from America, Australia, the Head of the Polish Fire Service, and throughout Europe – including a young boy who pledged in the book to pay his pocket money into the fund.
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said: "The fund has been established for those who wish to make a contribution to go directly to the families of the firefighters involved. The fund will also help to provide a fitting memorial at a later date.

“Warwickshire County Council will also be paying any credit card payment fees for making the donation to ensure that all of the donated funds go to the families and towards the memorial.”

Work is also underway to try and get Books of Condolences into Warwickshire’s fire stations and other county locations.
