Appointed by the School Food Trust, the ambassadors are Ruth Breeze, Community Dietician based at Warwick Hospital; Rob Chapleo, Senior Environmental Health Officer for Warwick District; Kathy Isham, Healthy Schools Adviser for Warwickshire County Council’s Children, Young People and Families Directorate and Pat Hughes, Operations Manager for Warwickshire’s County Caterers.
The School Food Ambassadors will be working closely with schools to highlight best practice, update on new legislation and standards, clarify on issues and provide resources.
Kathy Isham said: “I am excited about being involved with this challenging role.  There is already some brilliant work being done in our schools to promote healthy diets as part of a healthy lifestyle.
 
“We want to use this opportunity to enable schools to share good practice and keep up-to-date with the latest information and support available. As Ambassadors we will be able to inform schools and local partners of the latest research findings, and to use this along with local knowledge and expertise to raise awareness of school food in our area.”

The Food Ambassadors will also be working to support and promote the Government’s ‘Million meals’ campaign which was launched by Children, Schools and Families Secretary, Ed Balls. The idea behind the initiative is to boost the uptake of meals in schools in England by a further one million lunches a day.

Kathy added: “As Ambassadors we will be encouraging school leadership teams to support this campaign by signing up to its four principles; respect our pupils as customers; give them time and space to eat; teach them why good food matters; and promote food to parents.  We’ll also be asking schools to set simple targets to increase take up of school meals. “
