Talented young writers launch their own magazine

Talented young writers from the Stratford district launched their own youth arts magazine at a celebration ball at Compton Verney on Friday 9 November.

The magazine ‘Silhouex’ has enabled young writers, aged between 8-16, to produce their own publication and develop their skills in creative writing, illustration, interviewing and photography.  The magazine was launched at the Shadow Ball, a showcase event for young people’s creative projects.

The exciting project was run by Escape: Community Art in Action and Warwickshire County Council’s Stratford Family Support Team. The initiative received funding from Positive About Young People and Warwickshire Crimebeat which are both partnerships between Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Police.

The Shadow Ball event also involved a premiere screening and Oscar ceremony for two short films, the launch of a youth arts web-site and singing and live performances with a new music CD. Further entertainment was provided by the County Music Service’s youth rock band Red Kyte.

Karen Jones, Children’s Services Development Officer for Warwickshire County Council, said: “The Shadow Ball was a fantastic celebration of all the work young people had achieved in 2007.”
