Firefighters aim to boost family fund!

Firefighters from Leamington and Warwick will be braving the cold weather this weekend in an attempt to boost funds for the families of their colleagues who lost their lives in the warehouse fire in Atherstone-on-Stour.

The fire happened on the evening of Friday, November 2, and 44-year-old Ian Reid; Darren Yates-Badley, aged 24; John Averis, aged 27; and Ashley Stephens, aged 20, all lost their lives while tackling the incident.

The firefighters will be shaking tins to raise as much money as they can for the families firefighters fund at Tescos on the Emscote road, Leamington town centre and Warwick town centre on Saturday 17 November from 10am.

Firefighter, George Pare said:
“We are really pleased to be able to support the fund and the families of our colleagues. It has been a really tough two weeks and we feel that this is an appropriate way for us honour the memory of Ian, Darren, John and Ashley.”

Posters promoting the fund have gone to libraries, doctors’ surgeries, one stop shops, council offices and many other locations such as shops and leisure centres, detailing how to make contributions to the fund.

The fund, created by Warwickshire County Council, has this morning topped £71,000 in donations from more than 600 people. There have also been 4684 on-line condolences from people across the world. For further information on the fund log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fireandrescue
