Nicholas Chamberlaine leads the way during Anti-bullying Week

Nicholas Chamberlaine Technology College is organising a host of activities throughout Anti-bullying Week this week.

The school is dedicating assemblies throughout the week to anti-bullying themes, and lessons such as ICT will raise awareness of the growing area of cyberbullying using mobile phone and internet technology. Students have been invited to design their own anti-bullying badge and the school is creating its own online anti-bullying questionnaire.

The school also has two student counsellors from the sixth form, who have been trained by Relate, and will be on hand to speak to young people who may have been affected by bullying and feel unable to speak to an adult.

The anti-bullying activities at Nicholas Chamberlaine form part of the County Council’s week-long blitz on bullying from 19-23 November. A range of activities, which are being coordinated by Warwickshire’s Anti-Bullying Partnership, will be taking place in schools, youth centres, PODs and Connexions Centres throughout the week.

To stamp out the growing area of cyber-bullying by text and email, all members of the community are also encouraged to sign up to Warwickshire’s online anti-bullying pledge through http://www.wpthezone.co.uk/cyberbullying

Warwickshire’s anti-bullying partnership is made up of Warwickshire County Council, Schools, Warwickshire Police and a range of other agencies including Connexions, Relate, Victim Support and the Children’s Fund.

Viv Sales, Principal Educational Social Worker for Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are hugely encouraged by Nicholas Chamberlaine who are continuing their positive response to bullying. We want everyone to feel able to talk openly and honestly about bullying situations so that they can get support from each other, and Nicholas Chamberlaine is really leading the way.”

Every November Anti-bullying Week, which is organised by the Anti-bullying Alliance, shines a light on bullying, sending a clear and positive message that bullying is not acceptable or inevitable.

The theme this year is bullying in the community – ‘Safer together, safer wherever’ reminding us that we all have a role to play in keeping children safe wherever they are.
