New trees planted for cycle route

Warwickshire County Council is making sure that it’s green new cycleway on the outskirts of Leamington doesn’t impact on the environment and is planting new oak and lime trees to replace ones removed as part of creating the new route.

The council is on Tuesday planting five new trees on the central island at the Europa Way roundabout on Gallows Hill, on the outskirts of Leamington.

The new oak and lime trees replace those on Gallows Hill, which it was unfortunately necessary to remove when the new shared footway and cycleway to Warwick Technology Park was built this summer.

Cllr John Vereker, who as Chairman of the County Council planted the trees on Gallows Hill when Warwick Technology Park was being established 30 years ago, will help to plant the new trees.

Cllr Vereker said: “While it is unfortunate that some trees had to be removed to construct the shared footway and cycleway, it was at least for a good reason.

“The new route will help the environment by enabling people to travel to work in a sustainable way. However, I’m very pleased that we are able to plant some new trees to make the scheme even more environmentally friendly.”
