Warwickshire’s Youth Orchestra to perform in Rugby
Warwickshire’s County Youth Orchestra will be performing in a special concert at St George’s Church, Hillmorton, Rugby, on Sunday 2 Dec at 7.45 pm.
This is the first concert of the second season given by the County Youth Orchestra under its new conductor, Colin Touchin, and it features a programme which includes a masterpiece by Beethoven, his Symphony No 5, the popular trumpet concerto by Haydn (played by Ed Gallaway, who is a member of the orchestra and is a pupil at Kenilworth School) and a lesser known, but no less exciting, work by Gustav Holst, the Ballet Music from The Perfect Fool.
The County Youth Orchestra is part of Warwickshire County Council’s Music Service and consists of 65 young musicians from all over Warwickshire; it meets on a weekly basis and gives several concerts thoughout the county and further afield. Last summer it performed at the Warwick International Festival as well as in Stratford, Leamington and the Bedworth Civic Hall, and it went on tour to Spain where it gave three concerts in and around Bilbao.
Concerts in this season include a performance of the Brahms Requiem with the Royal Leamington Spa Bach Choir (8 Mar), another concert at Bedworth Civic Hall (13 April) which includes a performance of Mendelsohnn’s violin concerto (soloist Katy Smith) and a dance show at the Warwick International Festival in conjunction with the Leamington and Warwick Dance Academy (27 June) as well as appearances in the South Warwickshire Area Festival and the Nuneaton & Bedworth Area Festival (2 & 3 July). In 2009 the orchestra has plans to visit China and Hong Kong together with the County Youth Chorale.
The forthcoming concert takes place at St George’s Church, Hillmorton, Rugby, on Sunday 2 Dec, 7.45 pm. Tickets cost £7 (£3 concessions) on the door.
