Park View kitchen strikes gold

Park View Home for Elderly People, one of the homes run by Warwickshire County Council for older people, has received a gold award for its kitchen in recognition of the high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

With hygiene being as high on the agenda for homes for elderly people as it is on hospital wards, staff are taking great care to ensure that all procedures are adhered to.  These include COSHH Hygiene Infection controls (Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health); nutrition needs are another priority with individual choices offered to residents.

Annis Tombs, manager of Park View, said:  “Of course, we are delighted to be able to demonstrate to our residents and their families that their health is of paramount importance to us.  It is vital that we maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and this award is recognition of the extremely high standards that staff maintain.”

Residents have also expressed delight at the menu on offer.  Cook Sarita Harris takes pride in all meals; her speciality is fish and chips on Fridays where she uses fresh fish and coats them in her own special recipe batter.

Annis Tombs said:  “Meal times are special as they are a chance for all the residents to come together.  Sarita and the kitchen staff go to great pains to ensure that the meals are of the highest quality and uses fresh ingredients rather than processed foods.”

Mona Pratt, formerly of Leamington but now a full time resident at Park View, took time out from her fish and chips to agree.

“I love mealtimes here.  We’re spoilt and the cook always puts on a good spread.”
