PHILLIS enjoys its anniversary
PHILLIS, Warwickshire County Council’s service that helps people over 50 to live independently in their homes, is celebrating its first anniversary.
PHILLIS, which stands for Promoting Health and Independence through Low Level Integrated Support, helps people aged over 50 to find out more about the services that help them live on their own in their own homes.
Trained staff can advise customers on many aspects of living, enabling older people to independently get jobs done around the house, to get shopping in, socialise and join leisure groups and a host of other activities.
In the year since its inception, PHILLIS has received nearly 1000 calls in Warwickshire ranging from benefits advice (39% of all calls), transport advice (7.5%), befriending services (5.7%) through to computer classes (2.3%) and mobile chiropody (0.5%).
Councillor Colin Hayfield, portfolio holder for adult and community services, said: “Over the last year, PHILLIS has offered a range of support to people aged over fifty who may need some help with everyday living tasks or maintaining their home or even with pursuing leisure hobbies and further education.
“People are happier living in their own home and in doing so, they put less of a strain on local authorities’ health budgets. PHILLIS enables people to enjoy a higher quality of life, living where they wish to live.”
