£30k funding to benefit local community projects

Eleven separate projects in Stratford-on-Avon district are set to benefit from a total of more than £30,000 of funding from Warwickshire County Council’s Community Development Fund, following approval by Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee.

The projects include theatre and dance training for disabled and vulnerable people in Stratford, the purchase of some new ovens for Age Concern in Shipston and the installation of a hearing loop in Little Wolford Village Hall.

Councillor George Atkinson, Chair of Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee, said: “The Community Development Fund aims to help communities, especially in more disadvantaged areas of the county, tackle issues of local concern.

“Competition for grants from the Community Development Fund is always high, but Stratford-on-Avon Area Committee is delighted to grant financial support for these eleven commendable projects in Stratford district.”

The eleven projects to benefit in Stratford district are:

Project: In2Theatre Production
Organisation: In2Theatre       Funding: £1,632

In2Theatre applied for funding to offer professional community theatre and dance training to disabled and vulnerable people in the Stratford and New Town wards.

Project: Priors Marston Playground Resurfacing
Organisation: Priors Marston Parish Council     Funding: £5,000


This project will remove the existing playground surfacing at Priors Marston and replace it with one that is safer, more durable and hygienic.

Project: Harbury Pre-School Toy and Equipment Storage
Organisation: Harbury Pre-School Funding: £1,452

Harbury Pre-School applied for funding to provide a large storage facility for their toys and equipment.

Project: New Ovens
Organisation: Age Concern Funding: £2,000

This project will replace four very old second-hand ovens for Age Concern in Shipston.

Project: Arrow Village Hall Roof
Organisation: Arrow Village Hall Management   Funding: £3,000

Arrow Village Hall in Alcester applied for funding to replace the village hall roof to make the hall viable in the long-term.

Project: New outdoor area
Organisation: Kineton Playgroup Ltd. Funding: £5,000

This project will put down soft safety surfacing and install new equipment such as a climbing frame, sand pit and playhouse.

Project: Installation of hearing loop in Little Wolford Village Hall
Organisation: Little Wolford Village Hall Management Committee Funding: £1,536

Little Wolford Village Hall Management Committee applied for funding to install a hearing loop system to enable people with hearing difficulties to enjoy activities in the hall.

Project: Establish and develop a new branch in Southam of the Friendship Project for children Organisation: The Friendship Project for Children Funding: £2,016

This project will respond to the need, demonstrated by increased referrals from social services, to support socially isolated youngsters, who are inadequately served by the Stratford branch of the Friendship Project.

Project: Clifford Chambers Village Hall refurbishment of gents toilets and updating of ladies to include unisex disabled toilet
Organisation: Clifford Chambers Village Hall & Recreation Ground Management Committee
Funding: £5,000

Clifford Chambers Village Hall applied for funding to completely refurbish their gents toilets and update their ladies toilet to incorporate a unisex disabled toilet.

Project: Summer house seating and bench for Wilmcote Willow
Organisation: Wilmcote Recreation and Play                   Funding: £4,652

This project will provide a seating unit with a central table and an area of shade in Aston Cantlow.

Project: Community Computer Access
Organisation: Clopton Community Forum     Funding: £1,391

Clopton Community Forum applied for funding to provide Microsoft 2003 software licences for four donated laptops.
