Gone but not forgotten……

Young people who have moved out of care are in for a surprise this Christmas.

This year, thought has turned to those young people who are no longer in care but who are living on their own and taking responsibility for their housing at a far younger age than the average.

Rugby foster carers, led by Norma Wilson of Warwickshire County Council’s Fostering Service, have been fundraising throughout the year to make sure that young care leavers are not forgotten by giving them a special hamper to see them through the festive season.

Susan Holden of Warwickshire County Council’s Leaving Care Team said: “At a time when most young people are staying with their parents until their early 20s, some young people who are in care move out before they are 18. Our job is to help young care leavers until they are 21 and make sure they have the support they need.

“We are grateful to the foster carers for providing the hampers because they not only give the young people tasty treats but they remind them that we are thinking of them throughout the Christmas period and wishing them well.”

Foster carers in Warwickshire currently provide homes for around 450 children and the county’s Fostering Service is always seeking new foster carers. If you want to know more about fostering call 01926 746956 for more information or visit http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/fostering
