Turning rubbish into thousands for local communities

Diverting tonnes of rubbish away from landfill has meant that community groups in Warwickshire are benefiting to the tune of £33,750.

Four organisations in Nuneaton and Bedworth, one in Coventry and one in Leamington Spa are celebrating following the news that they have received grants from the Landfill Communities Fund.

The money will help improvements to be made at:
Nuneaton Women’s Multicultural Resource Centre, where a specialist play surface is being installed (£5,000).
Bermuda Balancing Lake, where benches and information signs are being added (£4,900).
Bedworth Heath Leisure and Activity Centre, where a roller shutter for the front door is being funded (£846).
Exhall Old School Community Centre, where there will be improvements to the ramped access (£5,672).
Nexus Academy of Music, where there will be improvements to access (£12,359).
Hybrid Arts, where a PA system will be purchased for the Indestructable Music Club (£4,973).

The projects have been funded using the landfill tax credit money of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN).

The Warwickshire Environmental Trust secured the grants and Louise Boffey, the Trust Administrator, is employed by Warwickshire County Council and seconded to the Trust.

Louise said: “WREN’s support for local community groups is invaluable – the grants will enable much needed work to be carried out that will benefit everyone.”

John Winslow, Senior Project Manager at WREN, said “WREN is pleased to be working with the Warwickshire Environmental Trust in distributing gift aid around the County. In this way we are able to reach many more charities who can then benefit from these donations to their projects.”
