Racing to invest in Warwickshire

More than 100 key figures from the world of motorsport gathered at a special event at Autosport International to hear how Warwickshire is offering unique opportunities in driving the industry forward.

Warwickshire County Council, in conjunction with partners in Coventry and Solihull councils as well as Northamptonshire Enterprise, staged a Business Breakfast event, titled “Invest in Motorsport Valley”, on the opening day of the Autosport International Show at the NEC, Birmingham.

The event allowed delegates to hear from two of the UK’s leading motorsport organisations and about the advantages about locating their business in Motorsport Valley.

David Richards CBE, Chairman of Prodrive, and Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone, discussed their views about the UK motorsport industry as well as providing exclusive information about their exciting new projects - The Fulcrum project at Prodrive in Warwickshire and the Silverstone Technology Park in Northamptonshire - and how local businesses can get involved.

The guest speakers were interviewed by Chris Aylett, CEO of the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA).

Already the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire sub-region has won the business of everything from World Rally Teams through to specialised research and development companies.

Cllr Chris Saint, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: ``Working with partners we are offering a valuable opportunity to key players in the motorsport arena to develop the strategic advantages this sub-region holds as a unique hub of motorsport and performance engineering.’’
