New Year computer giveaway in North Warwickshire!

Fifteen community organisations in North Warwickshire, ranging from a local Brownie group to Polesworth Abbey, are to benefit from a New Year’s gift of a recycled computer.

By the end of February, twenty recycled computers will have been handed out to North Warwickshire organisations by Warwickshire County Council, as part of its regular ‘great computer giveaways’, the latest of which was launched in August last year.

Councillors from North Warwickshire Area Committee decided which organisations would receive the computers at their most recent meetings.

The recipients include Piccadilly Community Association in Kingsbury, who will receive two computers for use by the local community and their treasurer and secretary.

Polesworth Abbey have been donated a recycled computer that will be used by volunteers on their welcome desk, while Fillongley Village Hall will also receive two computers that will be used for community slide shows, events and IT classes.

Baxterley Parish Council is to receive a computer for use by their clerk for Parish Council business, while Sheepy Road Community Centre in Atherstone will also get a recycled computer to help them produce meeting minutes and leaflets.

North Warwickshire Neighbourhood Watch have been donated a computer to help support the running of the group and improve their communications, while 1st Grendon (All Saints) Brownies in Baddesley Ensor will receive a computer to help with administration and also help the Brownies work towards their IT badge.

Polesworth Pre-School Children’s Centre will receive two computers to help with the administration of the pre-school and assist their staff with lesson planning, and North Warwickshire Colliery Welfare Social and Sports Club will also get a computer to help with administration and improve communications.

Eastland Communities Group will get one donated computer to help with their group administration and enable them to resume IT classes, and Ansley Common Community Led Panel will also receive a computer to help with administration.

Polesworth Community Association is to receive two computers to assist with administration and promotion of the Polesworth Memorial Hall and Community Sports Field, while Hurley Community Association will receive one computer to help upgrade its bank of 8 computers used to train local residents on IT courses.

1st Warton Scout Group will receive two computers to help promote the group, set up a website and work towards their IT badge.

North Warwickshire Home Services Group will receive one computer to help with their accounts and promotion of their service. The Group provides a local mobile shop service to housebound residents.

Councillor Ray Sweet, Chair of North Warwickshire Area Committee, said: “It’s great to be able to offer a number of the county council’s recycled computers to groups like this. We’re helping to put something back into the community and that’s just the kind of thing we want to do more of.”
