Tots tuck in with Basil
Tots at Surestars Nursery in Leamington were in for a big surprise when Basil Bear, Warwickshire County Council’s ambassador for good food and health, paid them a visit.
Basil Bear dropped into the nursery to share platters of fresh fruit and vegetables and told the children all about the importance of a healthy diet. The more adventurous young eaters were also rewarded with special stickers for trying something new.
The health conscious visit was organised by Warwickshire’s County Caterers and Surestars Nursery who want to appeal to children of all ages to eat more nutritious, balanced meals. With the help of a nutritionist, Surestars Nursery has been working on the healthy eating agenda.
Lindsay Higgins of Warwickshire County Council’s catering arm said: “You are never too young to start a healthy diet and this is a fun way of encouraging young children to try new things. Research suggests that many eating habits are established from childhood and we want to embed a healthy eating culture at an early age.”
Basil’s visit is one of many initiatives, which are being run by Warwickshire County Council to promote healthy meals in schools and early years settings.
