Home is 35 years old

More than 60 guests along with staff and residents including resident, 101 year old Violet Parker, gathered to celebrate the anniversary of Mayfield home for older people in Bedworth and say goodbye to three dedicated workers who took their retirement.

Mayfield is part of Warwickshire County Council’s residential provision caring for older people.

Margaret Harris, who has worked at the home since just after it opened, retired after 35 years closely followed by Velma Todd, retiring after working as a care assistant for 27 years. Marcella Lanchbury has also retired after five years at Mayfield as a care assistant.

Margaret had a variety of roles including Domestic and Care Officer, although for the last 10 years she has enjoyed her role as Cook.
Margaret said:
“I’ve enjoyed the variety of jobs that I’ve done.”

Velma said:
“If I could have my time again I would come back and do it all again.”

Ray Durkin, manager at Mayfield said:
“We have a lot of long serving dedicated workers and it was good to celebrate and say farewell to three of them, they will be missed but we wish them a happy retirement. £211 was raised by the event and the money raised will go to Mayfield’s Residents Christmas Fund.”
