Anita sizzles in school chef heat

Competition in the kitchen is hotting up in the race to become School Chef of the Year.

Anita Hellyer, Warwickshire’s own version of Delia Smith from St Benedict’s RC High School in Alcester, is representing County Caterers in the West Midlands regional final of the School Chef of the Year contest on February 28.

Anita wowed the judges in a recent ‘cook off’ with her local lamb casserole, served with homemade bread pot with spring vegetables and beetroot coulis, which she followed up with a mixed berry and apple cranachan.

In second place was Tracey Henstone, from Bishopton Primary School in Stratford, who dished up a delicious lamb and mint burger with beetroot and chive cous cous served with pitta bread, followed by a fruity yoghurt dessert.

The pair were judged by a panel which included a community dietician, a chef and two Year Six pupils from The Willows C of E Primary School in Stratford.

If Anita is successful in the regional heat, she will go onto the national final to compete against school cooks from all over the country.

Lindsay Higgins, Development Manager for County Catering, said: “Once again the cooking in this competition was of the highest standard and both Anita and Tracey served up some fine cuisine.

“Anita will now represent Warwickshire in a regional heat and we are confident that she has the culinary talent to cook her way to the national final.”
