Schools celebrate Chinese New Year

Kung hei fat choy! Congratulations and be prosperous!

Pupils across Warwickshire will be chowing down on oodles of noodles when they celebrate Chinese New Year today.

Warwickshire County Council’s catering arm created a fresh and tasty themed menu for primary school children across Warwickshire to enjoy as they celebrate one of the most colourful and important events of the Chinese calendar.

The Chinese New Year menu includes Chinese Style Chicken, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Carrot and Mandarin Salad, Egg noodles or Rice with Peas, followed by Oriental Fruit Iced Yoghurts or Syrup Cake with custard.

Lindsay Higgins from Warwickshire County Caterers said: “Food is a wonderful way to learn about other cultures and we are delighted to celebrate Chinese New Year with our young customers. The menu has been created to meet our healthy nutritional standards so it is not just fun but it is balanced too.”

Chinese New Year 2008 is Year of the Rat and people born under the sign of the rat are said to be leaders, pioneers and of a hardworking nature.  The 2008 Chinese New Year starts on February 7 and celebrations traditionally tend to last up to 15 days.
