Warwickshire County Council is ‘improving well’
Warwickshire County Council has been judged to be ‘improving well’ – that’s the verdict from the Audit Commission on the progress the council made in 2007.
The Audit Commission, an independent body responsible for ensuring that public money is spent economically, efficiently and effectively, yesterday (Thursday 7 February) released their latest report on the performance of councils around the country.
The Audit Commission’s ‘direction of travel’ statement for Warwickshire County Council states that it is ‘improving well’. The Commission has awarded the council a ‘3 star’ overall rating – the highest rating being 4 stars.
In its assessment of the council’s performance, the Commission states that Warwickshire County Council has “delivered improving outcomes in its three priority areas” of raising educational attainment, caring for older people and pursuing a sustainable environment and demonstrated “good improvement across services”.
Leader of Warwickshire County Council, Councillor Alan Farnell said: “I am delighted that the Audit Commission have judged Warwickshire County Council to be a local authority that is improving well.
“Our investment in Adult Services is delivering more choice for older people, educational attainment is above the national average, and we are also making good progress in pursuing a sustainable environment. Our result shows that our services are really delivering in our priority areas.”
The Audit Commission also praised Warwickshire County Council’s “increased pace in improving access to services” and commended the council’s strengthened financial processes and strong leadership.
