Warwickshire residents urged to have their say

Warwickshire County Council's Community Protection Directorate is asking residents to have their say on how it serves the local community, as part of the consultation for its Integrated Risk Management Plan (IRMP).

Since April 2003 every Fire and Rescue Authority has been required to produce a local IRMP that helps the authority to reduce risk to the people of Warwickshire.

The IRMP 2007/10 sets out Warwickshire’s assessment of local risk to life and, in line with this analysis, how it intends to deploy its resources to tackle these risks and improve the safety of all residents across Warwickshire.

The plan identifies the ways in which the authority can work in partnership with neighbouring authorities and other agencies to deliver improved public safety.

The Community Protection Directorate aims to achieve a number of key targets and goals as part of the IRMP Action Plan for 2008/09. These include:

Atherstone on Stour (Operational and Community Fire Safety)
In view of the difficulties and challenges posed by the Atherstone on Stour incident, align the structure of the Service to address these issues whilst ensuring WFRS maintains an effective and responsive Emergency Service in line with the existing standards of fire cover.

Maintain high standards and through partnership working with other agencies explore opportunities to enhance and expand the successful Community Fire Safety programmes.

Benchmarking (Performance and VFM)
To undertake further benchmarking activity in respect of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Value For Money (VFM) to better understand the Service’s position relative to other similar FRAs.  This will guide and influence future Service related improvement activities.

Local Area Agreement (LAA) (Partnership working)
Successfully negotiate the Safer block element of the new LAA by June 2008. The focus of activity for the Directorate through partnership working is in the following areas of work:
o Serious Violent Crime
o Acquisitive Crime
o Local Antisocial Behaviour
o Reducing Antisocial Behaviour
o Drug Abuse
o Road Traffic Collisions

The IRMP Action Plan for 2008/09 has a 4 week consultation period and we would welcome your views on the key priorities of the directorate outlined above.

Director of Community Protection and County Fire Officer, William Brown said:
“I would urge residents to take this opportunity to find out more about the breath of work that we do and how to use those services. We would value views from all members of the community and will ensure that they are carefully considered.”

The deadline for consultation is on Friday 14 March 2008. So don’t delay – have your say and log onto http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/irmp.
