Work getting underway to repair bridge
Workers will be moving in soon on the Clopton Bridge in Stratford to carry out repairs works after a lorry caused substantial damage.
The damage was caused in October of last year and works will be getting underway in the next few days to repair the town’s historic landmark.
The works include reconstructing the parapet, end pilaster, and plinth course along the site in question. Warwickshire County Council has had to seek consent for the works, which has been granted, due to the structure’s ancient monument status.
Workers from the county council’s bridge maintenance team are now awaiting supply of the stone, which has been approved by English Heritage.
Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “A number of historic repairs to this bridge have not been in keeping with its historic status, and these will also be rectified through these works.”
All works will be carried out from the external face over the watercourse in order to minimise any form of disruption to traffic using the bridge.
