A new opening for teachers at can factory

Teachers are getting an insight into the world of industry in order to discover the array of jobs now available for budding engineers in schools.

The teachers from Warwickshire and Coventry will discover how drink cans are made and will hear about various career opportunities available in the engineering industry and the skills and qualifications needed for them when they visit the Rugby site of Ball Packaging Europe on Monday, February 25.

Ball Packaging Europe is one of the leading drink can producers in Europe. They manufacture two-piece beverage cans of tinplate and aluminium for beer, water, fruit juices, milk, yogurt and coffee. They have four plants in England, one of which is in Rugby.

The day has been organised in partnership with the Warwickshire Education Business Partnership (WEBP) and in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Engineers. Teachers will glean up to date knowledge about the industry whilst being able to take photographs and resources back to the classroom to enliven their curriculum teaching.

Julie O’Toole from the WEBP said “This is one of the many days we organise for teachers across all industry sectors and across all of Warwickshire.

“In particular we are aiming to provide support for teaching the new Diplomas, in this case engineering. Secondary teachers will need to prove they have had recent experience in industry in order to be able to teach the new curriculum.”
