Bridge works to prevent slip up

Slip-ups should be a thing of the past thanks to the go ahead from English Heritage and the Government to carry out works to improve safety on one of Stratford’s historic landmarks.

Warwickshire County Council has gained permission to undertake works and improve the surface condition of the Clopton Footbridge in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Towards the end of May or beginning of June the county council’s bridge maintenance team will be installing new non-slip boards.

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “These will be fitted to preserve the historic value of the listed ancient monument. The new surface will also guide partially sighted and night time pedestrians via white guidance strips either side of the footpath and provide a seamless non-slip surface all through the year.”

Installation of the boards will be through night closures of the footbridge, lasting up to 5 nights in succession.
