Children have fun with fire safety

Children from The Revel C of E Primary School got a real treat today when they visited Brinklow fire station.

Around 60 children from year one spent the morning at the station learning about a range of fire safety issues including, good and bad fires, how to get out safely if there is a fire in your home and how to call the fire brigade. The sessions were being delivered as part of the schools programme, which is run by firefighters from Warwickshire County Council’s fire and Rescue Service.

As part of the activities the children were also given a tour around a fire engine and got to squirt some water using a hose from the fire appliance. Even the teachers got involved, showing the children how to get a fire kit on.

Watch Manager, Moreno Francioso said:
"The schools programme delivers key fire safety messages to pupils in schools across Warwickshire. The children this morning were from year one and so we make the sessions as fun and as easy as we can, getting them to try fire kit on, whilst explaining why we need to wear it and the material it is made from. We also show them around the fire engine and then have an interactive session where the children have to point out the hidden dangers we face in our homes.

“The children had great fun. They all did really well and were very enthusiastic during the sessions.”
