Schools get enterprising for charity
Tomorrow night a major local charity will discover just how well enterprising school pupils from Nuneaton and North Warwickshire have done in turning a small float into a cash windfall.
Teams of Year 10 students have been using their enterprise skills in order to turn a £50 float into the maximum amount possible for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice.
The independent hospice was established to provide day care and Hospice at Home to local residents. It costs tens of thousands of pounds to run the hospice every year and the amount needed continues to rise as their services expand and develop.
Jaguar has previously donated £50 to each school as a ‘start up’ fund and the school teams have had 12 weeks to turn this initial float into as much money as possible to help the hospice with its running costs.
The students have had to use their skills of innovation and creativity, financial capability and business and economic understanding to come up with an enterprising business within school.
The challenge was launched on the 14th November as part of Enterprise Week when Janet Griffin from Mary Ann Evans Hospice visited the schools taking part in the challenge along with April Wickens from Jaguar and Vicki Way from Warwickshire Education Business Partnership who has co-ordinated the challenge.
The teams have been invited to present their ideas at a Presentation evening tomorrow at the Mary Ann Evans Hospice, when a winning team will be announced and the hospice will accept the funds raised by the students in order to continue their worthwhile work.
The EBP works as part of Warwickshire County Council with businesses and schools to help address the constant demand from employers for school leavers to be ‘work ready’.
