Consultation launched on new school

Warwickshire County Council is seeking the views of parents on plans to create a new primary school in Warwick.

Under the plans, Woodloes Infant School and Woodloes Junior School would amalgamate in September 2009 to create a single all-through primary school for children aged four to 11 years.

The new primary school, with the capacity to admit 60 pupils per year, would be located in one extended and refurbished building based at the current junior school site.

Cllr John Burton, Cabinet Member for Schools for Warwickshire County Council, said: “These plans will see the creation of a school which is even better placed to take on the challenges of raising standards for local children as it enters the next decade”.

“The new school will have greater pre-school provision and expanded school services to respond to the needs of the community. This development will provide Woodloes with a secure and positive future.”

Currently Woodloes Infant School teaches pupils aged between four and six and is situated on the same site as Woodloes Junior School, which caters for pupils aged from seven to 11.

The deadline for responses to the consultation is 11 April 2008. Warwick Area Committee will be invited to make comments on the proposal at their meeting of 6 May. Warwickshire County Council’s Cabinet will consider the response of the Area Committee and a report of all other responses to the consultation at their meeting on 22 May.

Views should be sent to Phil Astle, Children, Young People and Families Directorate, Saltisford Office Park, Ansell Way, Warwick CV34 4UL. The full consultation document can be found on the Warwickshire County Council website http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk on the Schools and Learning page under Consultation.
