Young performance groups hit the right note at Civic Hall
Bedworth Civic Hall will host a prestigious concert featuring the County Youth Orchestra and Wind Band on Sunday April 13 at 7.30pm.
The event will feature a varied programme of music including the famous Violin Concerto by Mendelssohn, performed by soloist Katy Smith.
The Youth Orchestra and Wind Band are two of Warwickshire County Music Service’s performance groups. Conducted by Colin Touchin, the County Youth Orchestra is a full symphonic orchestra of around 60 players aged between 14 and 21 which represents youth music making at the highest level in the county. The Warwickshire County Youth Wind Band has also earned an enviable reputation for the quality and variety of its music both at home and abroad.
One of the highlights of the night will be a performance by violinist Katy Smith. Having played the violin when she was five, Katy’s talent quickly developed and she has played in both the Peterborough Youth Orchestra and the Birmingham Junior Symphony Orchestra. In July 2003 she won a competition to play Lalo’s Symphony Espagnole with one of the Birmingham orchestras.
Katy is currently studying at the Yehudi Menuhin School with Berent Korfker. Since joining the school she has taken part in concerts as a soloist and as a member of the orchestra.
Tickets for the performance are available on the door, priced at £7 or £3 for concessions.
