Kenilworth road closure warning

Motorists are being warned to steer clear of a major route into Kenilworth ahead of a road closure from next week.

As part of Severn Trent Water’s ongoing Kenilworth Flood Alleviation Scheme, the A452 Warwick Road from the St John’s Gyratory (the Jet garage roundabout), to Waverley Road junction is to be closed until December.

The road is scheduled to be closed from Monday, April 14, and is not expected to re-open before December. It is required to allow Severn Trent Water to install new sewers and manholes as part of the flood alleviation scheme.

In order to try and ease congestion temporary waiting restrictions are also being introduced and orders will come into force on Monday preventing waiting at all times on Whateley’s Drive, and in Randall Road (between numbers 63 and 45, numbers 50 and 52, and numbers 64 and 68).

Cllr Martin Heatley, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “These works are an essential part of Severn Trent Water’s scheme and we regret an inconvenience this may cause. We are working with Severn Trent to try and ensure the disruption to motorists is as minimal as possible.”

A diversion route is being sign posted along St Johns, Birches Lane, Farmer Ward Road, Whitemoor Road, Spring Lane, Whateley’s Drive, Priory Road, Abbey Hill, Abbey End, The Square, and Warwick Road.

An alternative route for buses will also be available via Randall Road, St Nicholas Avenue, Mortimer Road, Rouncil Lane and Warwick Road.
