‘My Warwickshire – past and present’ is a feast for the eyes and tastebuds
Visitors to Rugby Art Gallery and Museum will be treated to the sights and tastes of yesteryear when they attend the opening of a special photography exhibition on Tuesday 22 April.
The ‘My Warwickshire – past and present’ exhibition has been created by local children who are too unwell to go to school and are receiving support from Warwickshire County Council’s Education for Children who are Out of School (ESOS) service. The youngsters have been comparing historical local photographs from the last century with images that they have photographed the same places today.
Everyone is welcome to attend the exhibition opening, which takes place from 6-7.30pm on Tuesday 22 April, and visitors will be invited to enjoy drinks and snacks which have been made following the recipes of our great grandparents.
Guests will receive a memory card game related to the exhibition while they tuck into traditional sweets, crayfish and bacon flans, bread and butter pudding, and refreshing home-made lemonade.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the exhibition forms part of an international project called Beyond the School and similar research has been undertaken all over Europe. More information about the project together with other investigations can be found at http://www.beyondtheschool.org.uk.
Mick Rafferty from Warwickshire County Council’s ECOS Service said: “We would urge everyone to come along to the grand opening which promises to be a treat for the eyes and tastebuds. ‘My Warwickshire – past and present’ is a fascinating project which shows many familiar Warwickshire scenes in a totally different light. The young participants have discovered that our local landscape holds the clues, stories and memories of our ancestors.”
The exhibition runs at Rugby Museum and Art Gallery from Wednesday 23 April to Monday 12 May. (Open Tue and Thu 1000-2000, Wed and Fri 1000-1700, Sat 1000-1700, Sun and Bank Hols 1200-1600. Closed Mondays).
