‘Go with the flow’ museum comes to Atherstone
‘Go with the flow – the life of rivers’ is Warwickshire and Worcestershire’s latest touring museum exhibition service, and it aims to reach parts of Warwickshire and Worcestershire which static museums cannot reach!
‘Go with the flow’ will run for a year from April 2008, and Atherstone residents will be pleased to hear that the mobile museum will be paying the town a visit on Tuesday 22 April. It will be at Woolpack Way public car park in Atherstone between 10am and 12 noon.
The ‘Museum on the Move’ will explore and celebrate the life and times of local rivers, with reference to landscapes, wildlife, floods, human settlement, industry, transport and leisure.
‘Go with the flow’ will illustrate these themes using museum objects, pictures, texts, interactive displays and other materials, with the help of friendly onboard interpreters. There will be a range of objects to handle and experiments to carry out.
Councillor Colin Hayfield, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Adult, Health and Community Services, said: “The mobile museum is a wonderful example of the County Council approach to taking services out to its more rural communities. The museum will give the opportunity for North Warwickshire residents to view a touring exhibition and learn about the importance of our local rivers.”
Warwickshire County Council’s Heritage Education team uses the collections of Warwickshire Museum Service and the County Record Office to make the heritage of Warwickshire accessible.
In addition to their involvement in the ‘Museum on the Move’ initiative, the team organises talks, activities, events and workshops for school groups, children, families, young people and adults. Heritage Education can also offer information and advice on subjects related to the team’s work.
