Meals on Wheels to go up

Warwickshire County Council wishes to announce that with effect from 1 June 2008 all county council Meals on Wheels Services and Lunch Club Services provided by WRVS will be subject to a 50 pence price increase per meal.

The proposal was agreed at a recent cabinet meeting. The increase is the first in two years and brings the prices in line with many other local authorities and in some cases the meals are still slightly cheaper.

It was also noted at the meeting that there have been increased costs to the Local Authority as the service has become more expensive within the last two years with rising fuel costs, utility costs and ongoing repairs and maintenance to older catering equipment and vehicles.

The price of Meals on Wheels service will now be £3.00 per meal and a Lunch Club Meal will be £3.10 per meal.

Kim Harlock, Head of Strategic Commisioning for Adult, Health and Community Services said
“The services will continue to provide customers with excellent value for money. The service will be closely monitored following the increase to ensure that any customers that leave the scheme are not left in a vulnerable position.”
